St. Lucie Mets Secure 1-0 Shutout Win Over Jupiter

St. Lucie Mets players celebrate after a 1-0 shutout win against Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

The St. Lucie Mets continued their impressive pitching performance, securing a 1-0 shutout victory against the Jupiter Hammerheads on Wednesday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter, Fla. This marks the second consecutive game where Mets pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout.

St. Lucie Mets Pitching Dominates Jupiter Hammerheads

Mets starter Frank Elissalt delivered a standout performance, pitching a career-high 5.1 innings. During his outing, Elissalt allowed only three singles, struck out two batters, and did not issue a single walk. He was highly efficient, completing his appearance with just 66 pitches.

Reliever Ernesto Mercedes entered in the sixth inning but faced control issues, walking three batters and loading the bases. However, Josh Blum quickly stepped in, retiring Jupiter’s PJ Morlando on a groundout to second base, leaving all three runners stranded.

Late-Game Heroics Secure Mets Victory

The game’s only run came in the eighth inning, initiated by a leadoff single from Mets’ Trace Willhoite. After advancing to second base on a balk by Jupiter pitcher Samuel Carpio, Willhoite moved to third on a groundout by Kevin Villavicencio. He then scored on a passed ball by Hammerheads catcher Carlos Sanchez, giving the Mets the decisive 1-0 lead.

Blum continued his stellar relief work, pitching a perfect eighth inning, requiring only five pitches. In the ninth, closer Juan Arnaud quickly recorded two outs before encountering trouble by walking one batter and hitting another. He recovered swiftly, striking out Dub Gleed to secure his first save of the season.

Jupiter Hammerheads Pitching Effort Falls Short

Despite the loss, Jupiter starter Eliazar Dishmey delivered an impressive performance, pitching six scoreless innings. This mirrored the previous night’s strong outing by teammate Julio Mendez, highlighting the Hammerheads’ pitching depth despite their recent offensive struggles.

Mets Continue Winning Streak

With this victory, the St. Lucie Mets extended their winning streak to five games, a season-high achievement. Currently undefeated in the second half of the Florida State League (FSL) season at 5-0, the Mets have also improved their overall record to 39-31, eight games above .500.

The Jupiter Hammerheads dropped to 1-4 in the second half and 31-40 overall. Both teams will face off again for the third game of their series at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Thursday, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
