Florida Moves to English-Only Driver’s License Exams

Florida will now require all driver’s license exams to be completed in English. Tests previously offered in Spanish, Haitian Creole, and other languages are being discontinued, following a trend seen in recent legislative actions such as the Senate bill targeting English proficiency for truck drivers nationwide. Translators will also no longer be permitted during the testing process, which may impact those seeking support similar to the assistance provided by bilingual ESOL instructors in St. Lucie County schools. These changes align with recent educational achievements in the region, such as St. Lucie earning its first-ever ‘A’ rating in Florida school grades. For more information about licensing requirements, you can visit the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV). Legislative updates on these changes can be found through the Florida Senate.
