The City of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Waste Pro of Florida have finalized a settlement agreement resolving a lawsuit over a previous solid waste collection contract. This comes at a time when waste disposal rates are rising in Port St. Lucie, highlighting the ongoing challenges in managing municipal waste services.
Under the agreement, Waste Pro will pay $24 million to the City. Both parties have agreed to release each other from any remaining claims and will formally dismiss the case. Meanwhile, residents may also be impacted by rising garbage fees in St. Lucie County for 2025, and the city’s efforts to reduce costs, such as the recent closure of the solid waste drop-off center to save $2 million annually, are part of a broader strategy to manage expenses.
