Sgt. Erik Levasseur of the Port St. Lucie Police Department was honored with the Purple Heart on Wednesday at the department’s 4th Quarter Awards Ceremony, held at the MIDFLORIDA Event Center. The recognition comes after he was critically injured in the line of duty during a recent incident.
Levasseur was seriously wounded on December 1 while responding to a call on Southwest Lake Park Drive, where he was shot in the face. The award recognized his service and sacrifice in the line of duty, and according to recent reports, he is expected to make a strong recovery despite the severity of his injuries. As of the latest update, Levasseur remains in the trauma ICU following the officer-involved shooting.
