Port St. Lucie Business Owner Arrested on Construction Fraud Charges

Police arrest business owner in Port St Lucie construction fraud case

Mark Montalto, owner of Port St. Lucie Properties Inc., was arrested by U.S. Marshals Service in Martin County on April 23, 2025. He faces 46 charges, including grand theft, fraud, and racketeering, following a police investigation into contracts signed from December 2021 to September 2023. This incident comes at a time when Port St. Lucie is experiencing a surge in new development projects, highlighting the importance of trust and transparency in the local real estate market.

According to Port St. Lucie Police Department, 21 individuals hired Montalto’s company to build homes, paid significant amounts, but saw work left unfinished and subcontractors unpaid. As the city continues to grow, reputable builders such as Taylor Morrison have been recognized for their reliability, setting a standard for others in the industry. Montalto is being held at the St. Lucie County Jail with bond set at $2.77 million. Meanwhile, industrial expansion in the area, such as Project King’s recent developments, continues to shape the city’s economic landscape.
