Vero Beach Regional Airport parking is currently free, but a proposal to create a paid parking system could bring changes by next summer as commercial airline service expands at the airport.
Current Free Parking at the Airport
The airport offers free long-term parking on Airport Drive across from the terminal building. The lot is available to the general public at no charge, but travelers park at their own risk because the area has minimal lighting and limited security patrols.
Vehicles are generally limited to 21 days in the lot.
Three Airlines Expected by February
By February, Vero Beach Regional Airport is expected to have three commercial airlines offering flights. Breeze Airways has served the airport since 2023.
JetBlue is scheduled to begin flights to New York and Boston on Dec. 11. American Airlines plans to launch service to Charlotte, North Carolina, on Feb. 12.
Paid Parking Proposal Details
A parking company has proposed investing about $2.3 million to create and manage a paid parking system at the airport. The concept was presented to the city Airport Commission on Oct. 17 by Vero Beach-based Envision Parking Partners and Gainesville-based SafeParc.
The companies would provide parking technology, software, infrastructure, upgraded lighting, and signs for long-term and short-term parking areas. In exchange, the companies would receive a long-term lease and pay the city rent and concessions from parking fees.
Proposed Rates and Payment Options
The parking rate has not been finalized, but an initial daily rate of about $10 for 24 hours has been discussed. Travelers could pay by QR code, text message, or phone.
The system could also use license plate-recognition technology to send bills by mail.
Construction Timeline and Approval
Construction on the parking changes would not begin until after the busy season. The earliest work could start would be June or July.
The proposal still needs lease negotiations and City Council approval before moving forward.
