PSL Approves $1.5M Fix for Village Parkway Intersection

The Port St. Lucie City Council unanimously approved a $1.5 million redesign of the intersection at Village Parkway and Tradition Parkway, a fix drivers in the Tradition community have been waiting on for years. The vote came Monday night, following similar efforts to improve key corridors such as the Bayshore Boulevard corridor.

Approved Redesign Plan Details

The approved plan is the most expensive of three options proposed by engineers. It will add a third lane for drivers going straight, extend the eastbound left turn lanes, add a new dedicated right turn lane, and relocate the city’s most-used bus stop to create more room for traffic.

The design also includes drainage improvements along Tradition Parkway, reflecting a citywide trend toward infrastructure upgrades like those recently started at the St. Lucie West Blvd and NW Peacock Blvd intersection.

Resident Feedback Shaped the Design

The design was reworked after residents pushed back on an earlier version at a public workshop last August. Engineers with the firm DRMP revised the plan to preserve a dedicated right turn lane, which residents identified as critical to keeping traffic moving.

Crash and Citation History at the Intersection

The Port St. Lucie Police Department has responded to 341 crashes at the intersection since January 2020. Of those, 197 were classified as rear-end collisions.

Police have also issued more than 1,600 citations and warnings at the intersection in that same time frame.

In June 2024, a 14-year-old bicyclist was airlifted to a hospital after being struck by a vehicle at SW Village Parkway and SW Tradition Parkway. In November 2025, the intersection was named one of the top 10 locations in Port St. Lucie recommended by police for red light cameras.

Construction Timeline and Budget

The project will go out to bid in June, with construction expected to begin as soon as August. Final design work is expected to wrap up in the next four to six weeks. This timeline is in line with other major city projects, such as the Marshall Parkway I-95 interchange plan.

To limit disruption for drivers, council members are open to having contractors do some of the work overnight. Extra money has been built into the budget to allow for overnight construction.
