Port St. Lucie Road Rage Leads to Fatal Shooting at Riviera Beach FedEx Hub

A road rage encounter that began as a Port St. Lucie FedEx (FedEx distribution center in Riviera Beach) driver traveled to Riviera Beach ended in a fatal shooting at a FedEx distribution center on April 16, 2026, leaving 34-year-old Nathaniel Padgett dead. Tyler Vidro, 25, was taken into custody in connection with the shooting.

Incident at the FedEx Distribution Center

According to the probable cause affidavit, at approximately 9:14 p.m. on April 16, a woman called to report that her husband, Nathaniel Padgett, had been shot in the leg. Moments before the call, the Riviera Beach Police Department’s ShotSpotter system detected multiple gunshots at 1177 West Blue Heron Blvd. In recent months, local law enforcement has responded to other high-profile incidents, such as the arrest of a 14-year-old for a Southport Middle School bomb threat on TikTok, highlighting ongoing safety concerns in the region.

Investigators found nine 9mm caliber shell casings at the scene. Padgett was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center (hospital where Nathaniel Padgett was treated) with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at around 11:28 p.m. that night.

Confrontation on the Turnpike

The affidavit describes the confrontation beginning as Padgett drove a FedEx truck from Port St. Lucie to the Riviera Beach hub with his wife in the passenger seat. According to a sworn statement summarized in the affidavit, Vidro pulled alongside the FedEx truck on the Turnpike, lowered his window, shrugged his shoulders, and raised his hand in an apparent attempt to provoke Padgett.

Padgett kept driving and tried to ignore him, but Vidro continued following them toward the FedEx facility. Surveillance footage cited in the affidavit shows Padgett driving into the FedEx property and Vidro’s gray Hyundai Sonata following about 21 seconds later.

Events Inside the FedEx Property

The rear parking and loading area was restricted private commercial property open only to employees and other authorized personnel. At about 9:09 p.m., Vidro stopped in the middle of the lot, got out, and paced around before moving near the loading ramp area, where he appeared to be waiting for Padgett to come out, according to the affidavit.

Audio captured on surveillance video recorded Vidro telling Padgett “you hit my car,” per the affidavit. Padgett then walked into view and tried to get past Vidro to reach the driver’s side of his personal Dodge pickup truck. The report describes Vidro following him and staying close enough to keep Padgett from freely accessing the vehicle. Similar confrontations in public spaces have occurred in the city, such as the Port St. Lucie pub parking lot shooting where no injuries were reported.

Attempt to Leave the Scene

The affidavit describes Padgett getting into his truck and driving westbound and then northbound around the building in what detectives described as a clear attempt to disengage and leave. Instead of breaking off the encounter, Vidro got back into his own car and accelerated after him.

A second surveillance camera captured Padgett stopping on the west side of the property, getting out, and picking up a concrete block about the size of a bowling ball. According to the report, Padgett approached the driver’s side of Vidro’s vehicle with the block in his hand.

The Shooting

Multiple shots were then fired in Padgett’s direction, and multiple muzzle flashes were visible on surveillance footage. The concrete block fell from Padgett’s hands to the roadway after he was struck.

Detectives noted in the affidavit that the block was not thrown and was not raised in a threatening manner before the shots were fired. The footage showed Padgett holding it at or near waist level, followed immediately by gunfire and the block dropping to the ground. Padgett was hit multiple times and collapsed before reaching the passenger side of his truck. Just weeks prior, authorities responded to another altercation involving gunfire with three arrests made after an incident at Harper’s Pub parking lot.

Suspect Taken Into Custody

At around 9:36 p.m., the West Palm Beach Police Department received a call from Vidro. Officers located him at a nearby Sunoco gas station and confirmed the shooting had occurred at the FedEx hub.

Upon arrival, officers informed Vidro of his rights. He was taken into custody for further investigation. Vidro had his first appearance on Saturday morning.
