The Port St. Lucie City Council on Monday unanimously approved a new design plan for the intersection of Village Parkway and Tradition Parkway, selecting the most expensive of three options at an estimated cost of $1.5 million. This decision follows a series of recent infrastructure initiatives, such as the Marshall Parkway and I-95 interchange plan, aimed at improving traffic flow across the city.
Intersection Concerns and Resident Input
In August 2025, city officials held a public meeting to gather input from drivers and pedestrians about what the intersection needs to become safer. Since 2020, there have been 2,035 traffic citations at the intersection. Similar community engagement was seen during the proposal of Bayshore Boulevard corridor improvements, reflecting the city’s commitment to resident feedback in transportation planning.
Three Design Options Presented to City Council
City council members were shown three different build designs and the capacity improvements that would potentially help with congestion. The third option was chosen. Alia Awwad, planning group lead for transportation at civil engineering firm DRMP (civil engineering firm), served as the presenter for the designs.
Selected Design Details
The chosen option proposes extending the eastbound left turn lanes back and extending an eastbound dedicated right turn lane. It would also relocate a bus stop on the south side of Tradition Parkway to allow more vehicle space. Other intersections in the area, such as St. Lucie West Blvd and NW Peacock Blvd, have recently undergone similar improvements to address congestion and safety.
A third through lane would also be added. The proposal carries an estimated price tag of $1.5 million, the most expensive of the three options.
Timeline for Finalizing the Design
It would take four to six weeks to finalize the design for bidding.
