St. Lucie Mets Hold Off Daytona Rally, Win 6-5

St. Lucie Mets baseball players celebrate win over Daytona Tortugas at Jackie Robinson Ballpark

The St. Lucie Mets survived a late-game rally by the Daytona Tortugas, securing a 6-5 victory at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach on Friday night, June 13, 2025. With this win, the Mets extended their lead in the Florida State League East division to four games, aided by a loss from the Palm Beach Cardinals against Lakeland.

St. Lucie Mets Early Offensive Surge

The Mets quickly built a 6-0 lead through the first six innings despite struggling with runners in scoring position, going 0-for-15 in those scenarios. Trey Snyder opened the scoring in the first inning, crossing home plate on a two-out wild pitch.

In the third inning, consecutive bases-loaded walks issued to Kevin Villavicencio and Willy Fanas increased the Mets’ advantage to 3-0. Snyder again scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning, making it 4-0.

Houck Powers Mets with Solo Homer

Colin Houck hit his seventh home run of the season in the sixth inning, pushing the Mets’ lead to 6-0. Houck finished the game 3-for-5, narrowly missing the cycle by a triple.

Daytona Tortugas Late Rally Falls Short

The Tortugas fought back in the seventh inning, sparked by a two-out, three-run double from Esmith Pineda off Mets reliever Hoss Brewer. A pinch-hit RBI single by Ryan McCrystal further narrowed the gap to 6-4.

In a tense ninth inning, Mets closer Hunter Hodges quickly retired the first two Daytona batters before running into trouble. After walking Pineda and allowing a single to McCrystal, an error by Hodges covering first base loaded the bases. Hodges then walked Jacob Friend, forcing in a run and cutting the Mets’ lead to 6-5. However, Hodges recovered to strike out Kyle Henley, ending the threat and securing the victory.

Standout Performances for St. Lucie Mets

Aside from Houck’s strong showing, catcher Daiverson Gutierrez reached base four times, going 2-for-3 with two walks. Gutierrez has now reached base in 12 of his 15 plate appearances during this series.

Snyder continued his impressive series, leading off the game with a double. He has now started each game in this series with an extra-base hit, including a home run on Tuesday, a triple on Wednesday, and a double on Thursday.

Mets Pitching Holds Firm

Mets starter Channing Austin threw four scoreless innings, allowing just two singles while walking four and striking out four. Reliever Josh Blum earned the win with two innings of scoreless relief, giving up two hits and striking out three without issuing a walk.

Upcoming Game and Series Information
