Port St. Lucie police responded to a tragic incident on Sunday afternoon, discovering the body of a 32-year-old man in a vehicle parked at the Bass Pro Shops near Interstate 95 and Southwest Gatlin Boulevard. Authorities arrived at the scene around 4 p.m. after receiving reports of an unresponsive individual inside a car.

According to police spokesperson Sgt. Dominick Mesiti, officers had to forcibly enter the vehicle, where they found the deceased with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A firearm was discovered in the man’s lap, along with a receipt indicating its purchase occurred last month.

Police Investigation Indicates Suicide

Investigators have stated there were no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. Sgt. Mesiti confirmed the incident appears to be a suicide, noting the victim had likely been deceased for an extended period before being found.

“Nothing suspicious was observed on scene,” Mesiti said. “The firearm was recovered along with a receipt from the purchase of the firearm which occurred last month.”

The incident occurred in the 2200 block of Southwest Gatlin Boulevard, a commercial area just east of Interstate 95. The parking lot of the popular retail store was temporarily cordoned off as police conducted their investigation, but normal operations resumed shortly thereafter.
