A Port St. Lucie woman, identified as Sarah Works, 28, is currently held without bond at the St. Lucie County Jail after being charged with multiple offenses related to financial exploitation of an elderly woman. According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, Works faces charges of scheme to defraud, fraudulent use of credit cards, and criminal use of personal identification.

The arrest occurred on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, following an investigation triggered by an out-of-state family member who noticed suspicious transactions on the elderly victim’s bank account. Detectives executed a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of Banyan Drive, Port St. Lucie, leading to Works’ arrest.

Second Incident of Elderly Exploitation

This recent arrest marks Works’ second encounter with law enforcement concerning similar allegations. Previously, on February 16, 2025, Works was arrested for grand theft of a motor vehicle and exploitation of an elderly person. In that incident, a 75-year-old woman reported unauthorized use of her Discover credit card and her 2008 Mercedes-Benz. The victim stated she had unknowingly signed documents granting Works power of attorney, a legal authority she never intended to provide.

During a traffic stop on February 16, deputies apprehended Works driving the victim’s Mercedes without permission. She had been released on bond until her most recent arrest.

Authorities Condemn Elder Abuse

Sheriff Richard Del Toro emphasized the severity of the crimes, stating, “Fraud and elder abuse are crimes that violate the law and betray the trust of our most vulnerable citizens. We will continue to take a strong stance against those who exploit and harm others for personal gain.”

Currently, the exact financial loss incurred by the elderly victim remains undisclosed. Investigations continue as authorities seek to determine the full extent of Works’ alleged criminal activities.
