Port St. Lucie Residents Demand Streetlight Solutions

Dark street in Riverland neighborhood, Port St. Lucie, with minimal lighting.

Residents of the Riverland neighborhood in Port St. Lucie are voicing concerns over inadequate street lighting, highlighting safety issues during early morning hours. Mark Greenberg, a local resident, raised these concerns at a recent community event, noting that the area around Village Parkway and Community Drive remains significantly dark.

Residents Highlight Safety Concerns

Greenberg emphasized the lack of sufficient lighting during his early morning walks, stating, “The only lights that are around here are from shops that are open and some lights across the street from the apartment building, but there are no street lights.” This lack of illumination poses potential safety risks for pedestrians and residents alike.

City Officials Respond to Lighting Issues

In response to these concerns, city officials in Port St. Lucie confirmed that Florida Power & Light (FPL) and Mattamy Homes are actively working to address the lighting deficiency. Plans are underway to install streetlights along Village Parkway and Community Drive, with completion anticipated within the next four months, by July 2025.

Despite the city’s assurances, Greenberg remains cautiously optimistic, stating, “I’ll believe it when I see it.”

Ongoing Community Advocacy

WPTV reporter Brooke Chau continues to monitor the situation closely, ensuring residents’ concerns are addressed promptly. The community’s proactive stance underscores the importance of adequate infrastructure in rapidly developing neighborhoods like Riverland.
