Port St. Lucie Calls for Artists: 2 Public Art Opportunities

Call for artists in Port St. Lucie to create public sculptures and utility box art.

The City of Port St. Lucie is currently seeking proposals from artists for two distinct public art initiatives aimed at enhancing community spaces and showcasing local talent. These projects provide an opportunity for artists to contribute creatively to the city’s visual landscape while celebrating regional identity and natural beauty.

Anchor Sculptures at The Port District

The Port St. Lucie Community Redevelopment Agency is inviting experienced artists or artist teams from St. Lucie, Indian River, Martin, or Okeechobee counties to submit proposals for designing and painting six anchor sculptures. These sculptures, each measuring 72 inches tall, 56 inches wide, and 6 inches deep, will be installed on concrete platforms at The Port District.

Selected artists will receive a payment of $2,500 upon successful completion and approval of their artwork. Interested artists must submit a PDF packet including a cover letter, qualifications, and up to 10 examples of past work. The submission deadline is Monday, April 7, 2025, at 3 p.m.. A selection committee will evaluate submissions based on artistic merit and relevance to the project goals.

Detailed submission guidelines and project criteria can be found in the official request for proposal available on the city’s website.

Utility Box Art Project

In addition to the anchor sculptures, Port St. Lucie is also inviting amateur and professional artists of all ages to submit artwork for a city-wide initiative to beautify utility boxes. This ongoing project transforms metal utility boxes into vibrant public art installations that reflect Florida’s rich natural environment.

Artists are encouraged to submit original artwork celebrating local flora, fauna, landscapes, endangered species, or unique neighborhood characteristics. The city welcomes diverse artistic mediums including drawings, paintings, and photographs. Accepted artwork will be printed on durable wraps applied to utility boxes throughout the community, replacing older or damaged installations as needed.

Utility Box Submission Guidelines:

  • Submission deadline: Monday, April 7, 2025
  • Submit electronically via email to bgrubbs@cityofpsl.com
  • Only one artwork per artist
  • High-resolution JPG file, landscape orientation
  • Include artist’s name, contact information, and artwork title
  • Minors must provide guardian’s name, relationship, and contact information

The City’s Public Art Advisory Board will review submissions, selecting pieces based on artistic quality, thematic relevance, and suitability for printing. Complete details and criteria are outlined in the official request for proposal document.
