Port St. Lucie Irish Festival: A Celebration of Celtic Traditions and Community

The City of Port St. Lucie is preparing to host its annual Irish Festival, which will transform the MIDFLORIDA Event Center on March 15 into a vibrant celebration of Celtic culture. From 3 to 9 p.m., this event will offer free admission and promises a captivating showcase of Irish traditions, encompassing music, dance, and cuisine.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Musical Acts

Commencing with the St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 3 p.m., the festival embraces the essence of Celtic heritage. Attendees can anticipate performances by renowned artists, including the Celtic folk band Screaming Orphans from Donegal, Ireland. Known for their harmonious blend of folk and pop music, they are set to provide an unforgettable musical journey. Rory Makem, with his 35-year legacy in folk music, will enhance the experience through songs narrating tales of sailors, workers, and lovers.

The Palm Beach Pipes and Drums will infuse a Scottish element into the festivities, maintaining a 45-year tradition in South Florida. Visitors will also be entertained by the Tir Na Greine School of Irish Dance, showcasing Irish dance styles from across Florida.

Culinary Delights and Athletic Competitions

The festival cuisine reflects the rich culinary tradition of Ireland, featuring dishes like shepherd’s pie, bangers and mash, and corned beef sandwiches paired with authentic Irish beverages.

Festival-goers can also engage with highland games, featuring events such as the caber toss and sheaf toss, which celebrate Scottish and Celtic athleticism.

Cultural Exhibits and Community Support

A dedicated cultural area will present exhibits that explore unique aspects of Irish and Celtic heritages, including sports, literature, native Irish dog breeds, and traditional musical instruments.

In support of community initiatives, attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable canned goods for the Treasure Coast Food Bank to aid local residents in need.

This annual festival is not only a celebration of Irish culture but also a testament to community spirit and cultural appreciation. It offers a family-friendly setting for entertainment and education, inviting locals and visitors to enjoy a taste of Ireland in Florida.
