A major update may be just around the corner for air travel on the Treasure Coast. St. Lucie County Commissioner Cathy Townsend says the long-awaited announcement naming multiple commercial airlines coming to Treasure Coast International Airport could finally be only days away.
Townsend originally revealed the expected timeline back in August during an interview on the Port St. Lucie Talks podcast. At the time, she said the county was aiming for an announcement sometime between October and November. Now that November has arrived — and the window has narrowed — excitement is growing that the official confirmation could drop at any moment.
According to Townsend, the county has been in serious discussions with multiple airlines, and the final plan is expected to include more than one carrier. While she didn’t disclose names, she emphasized that interest in the Treasure Coast has been strong as the region continues to experience rapid population and economic growth.
Commercial air service in St. Lucie County would give residents a long-awaited alternative to traveling to Palm Beach, Orlando, or Melbourne airports — while also boosting tourism, business development, and local jobs.
County officials are preparing for what could be one of the biggest transportation announcements in recent Treasure Coast history.
